| We are excited by the new
testing being done by Dr. Dan York and his colleagues at
Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, MI. ALL of our lions
will be submitting blood work and contributing to this great
research! |

It is really quite interesting when you think of the
images of what it was like to live during the time of the decadent
Roman Empire. We think of the scenes of the Christian martyrs
being fed to the big, ferocious man-eating lions. We think of
their arenas where gladiators faced the great fierce lions in
combat. Those lions were believed to be the great shaggy-maned
Barbary lions. They were captured by the Romans in staggering
numbers. It was reported that the great rulers of that time
each maintained hundreds of these cats at any one time. Its
hard to imagine these man-eaters as a greater victim than all of the
men they ate. But think about it - since that time -
Christians have flourished and the Barbary has become extinct!

Introduction
Welcome to BarbaryLion.com. Here, we hope to teach you all
about this most magnificent King of the Beasts and all of the efforts
around the world to preserve its spectacular morphological traits
and about all of the efforts to put this great cat back into the
wild where he belongs!
It seems there has never been more of an importance on the
physical characteristics of an animal than with the Barbary Lion.
Only two sub species of lion possessed the lush dark belly fringe
that extends throughout the groin with a golden halo around the
royal face, becoming their most identifiable trait. The Barbary
(a.k.a. Atlas, Nubian) lion was the largest and was found throughout
Northern Africa from Morocco to Egypt. The smaller Cape Lion was
found through southern Africa from the Cape of Good Hope to the
province of Natal. Today, devoted fans of this nominate race
of lion feel it is worthy to preserve this lion based on its
physical characteristics alone! That in and of itself attests
to just how unique, important and impressive this massive predator
is!
Please bear with us while we
change over this site. There may be some minor problems and we
will attempt to fix them as quickly as possible! ~Thank you!

| With unwavering
determination to see this magnificent lion remain on this
earth for generations to come, Dr.
Noboyuki Yamaguchi is at the heart of the
scientific efforts for the Barbary Lion genetics. He has
used is own funding for as long as he was able to further
the scientific research on Barbary Lions, but with limited
funding available, research time may be running out.
If you would like to help fund this most important
conservation effort, please contact Dr. Yamaguchi and help
us raise the necessary $150,000 US and allow us to save this
awesome royal bloodline. |
